I took one of those calls today. You know the type:
Someone upset because the vacant lot NEAR them is disorderly. It just isn't what it should be. He called the last office who had it listed to complain. I listened to him talk about the weeds and talk about a bit of trash that had collected.

I explained as nicely as I could that we were not the listing office any more and in fact it was now off the market and he should contact the owners of the land. Then he said, " well, I thought I'd let you know I was going to complain before I called the county office about the weeds and trash."
That comment was the last one I was willing to let go by. I explained to him that he is lucky it isn't an empty home. He is very lucky that it is an empty lot easy to pick up the trash.
He said he knew he was lucky because he lives in an affluent neighborhood and I explained that there are empty homes in all price range of homes in our town. It has happened to lots of people and we all need to keep doing as much as possible to keep up civic pride; we should help as we can where ever we can. I wish I could help in many ways all the people who loose their homes and I do what I can, but please understand there are empty lots and you just might have to pick up a bit of trash to keep your neighborhood looking good.
Thanks for doing whatever you can.
Not sure how I feel about this one. I mean, I do feel bad for the state of the market and those homeowners who have lost out. But with respect to this gentleman here, the one who called in... You have one of two choices: 1.) you can complain all day long, 2.) you can do something about it.
When I walk around the neighborhood and/or the park, if I see an empty can lying on the floor or a piece of trash. I pick it up! I don't look for the park manager to complain about it.
So again, not to seem like a jerk, but come on...let's stop the complaining and get on it.
