Recently (happened to be in the early spring), one of the wonderful people I am learning about made a simple comment about the slogan I use in all my stuff. There is a story that goes along with the picture above I would like to share about the simple we make every day. I had not been in the real estate business very long (I was able to get started in March that year) and was looking at ways that I could gain a name for myself through advertising. Whille discussing different strategies, a friend of mine was with me at the time said something about not noticing I had grown a handlebar mustache. It was not real visible at the time as I also had a full beard. The marketing coach I was working with stopped what she was doing and said for me to wait just a minute as she wanted to change a display. I did not think much about it as this is her style. She returned in just a minute with a laptop with a picture of me on it but she had removed some of the beard in the picture. She said that I owed my friend a great deal of money because the strategy he had just given her to give to me about the handlebar mustache would become the most important marketing tool I could use. She then said I should cut my beard off and grow the mustache out and Market myself as "having a handle on the market." I liked the idea immediately and that night went home to make the necessary change to my appearence. I have had fun and it has become the integral part of who I am. Not long after that, I attended a real estate fair and won a drawing for a caricature and came away with the one above. I now use it as fun business cards, stationary, adds online and in print.
So now you have the story, and it has made a significant difference in how I present myself to the people I come in contact with. Nice thing was that the marketing coach did not present it as her idea or try to charge for it. She really liked it and uses it as part of her presentations not to give examples of different approaches to how you can market yourself. It does not have to be flashy, nor does it have to cost a bundle. What it really boils down to is listening to the people you are around and someone will make a statement about who or what you are that will be the perfect description of you.
More than anything else, make sure you have a lot of fun doing what you do so that your chosen work will make a difference in the lives of your family, friends, , customers, clients. They are all important to you.
