Right around this time of year we have a news event in this country which is tantamount to the February appearance of Punksatony Phil. We have the whole did he see his shadow or not? Will winter carry on for another six weeks or not?

Well Dr William Gray has to wait for two more mnths before he comes out and does his thing.

Oh and for the uneducated, his "thing" is how many hurricanes will hit the US mainland in any given year. It is quite important and certainly insurance companies pay attention and adjust premiums accordingly.

But you see there is a problem. Dr Gray has been so inaccurate these past few years that who knows if anyone should pay any attention to him or not?

From a real estate point of view, it certainly has an effect on the Florida market as some people hear what he has to say and make decisions about where they want to live, retire or have a vacation home based on his words.

The whole thing is plainly ridiculous. Scientifically speaking, it is just as important as the aforementioned Punksatony Phil! Just three years ago the busy season of 2005 was blamed on Global Warming (and for the real nut jobs, on George W Bush!). Then at the end of the second quiet season in a row, the below average seasons were ALSO blamed on global warming. I never got my head round that one either.

Anyway, for those of you who are interested, William Gray and his team will make their predictions this week. I can hardly wait!

Harris Rosen the big hotel guy here in Orlando apparently threatened Dr. Gray with a lawsuit for making such inacurate hurricane predictions.  Dr. Gray needs to retire.  He apparently has nothing better to do with his time than make a fool out of himself year after year.
