Still Alice

Still Alice is a very impactful movie starring Julianne Moore who develops Alzheimer's at a very early age. How the family deals with the effects of Alzheimer and how they manage to stay together will take you on an interdisciplinary voyage across time. This is a gripping story that makes one realize, how fast life can change and it can happen to anyone. In the movie, Alice is a renowned linguistics professor who begins to forget words and gets lost on campus and within her environment. Nothing can prepare the victim of Alzheimer's or the loved ones for the dramatic changes that are about to unfold and what they are destined to experience. It draws on human emotion and how it changes every aspect of their life, a life that must go on. It traces the beginning of the disease and how it tears apart the fabric of every member of the family's soul. The movie is packed with information and the mysteries associated with Alzheimer which leaves the audience forever transformed. I now understand why there is so much more research that needs to be done.

Still Alice is playing this week at Angelika in Plano, Texas.

Alzheimer's has to be one of the most frightening diseases known to us.  I can't even imagine what it would be like to be lost within yourself.  Sounds like "Still Alice" gives us some pretty good insight.

Oh wow, this movie is one I should see, since we are dealing with Alzheimers of a family member.  I hadn't heard of it; thanks for sharing.

Good morning Patricia.  My mom had Alzheimer's and it was in fact early onset. She began to show symptoms at age 64 and lived until 79.  Believe me, I have experienced this disease and it is devastating.  I do intend to see the film - Julianne Moore is one of my favorite actresses and I read the book.

Good morning Patricia, Alzheimer's has to be one of the most scariest diseases for the one who has it as well as those who are around. My mom had a brain aneurysm and stayed in my home for four years afterwards, it was very difficult. I hadn't heard of the movie, thanks for the share.

Hi Patricia, Thank you for posting this review.  There are so many families dealing with this horrible disease.  I heard a report where funding for research for this disease is not really that high and blames it on the fact that often people who have a disease will be the spokesperson for raising awareness and fundraising....but with Altzheimer's it is almost impossible for that person to materialize.

Roger D. Mucci   It would be tough for anyone and extremely hard, confusing, and frightening for those who live alone. Trapped in a body without cognition and/or recognition would be hell on earth.

Gloria Todor I'm hearing more and more stories about Altzheimer all the time and it concerns me because of our huge baby boomer population. What you heard about the funding is just a crying shame. Raising awareness is something that must be done because it's this type of condition that can have such a strong domino effect on families, the general public, other drivers on the road, and very destructive to every person's physical, mental, emotional, financial, real estate, and personal possessions. It's a high risk disease and the bar needs to raise for funding for research and a cure.

Patricia Alzheimer's is a horrible disease.  The impact upon the one who has it is terrible, but the impact on the family might even be worst.

By the way I like the new picture :)

I'm not sure I could watch this movie with it being so sad. Alzheimer's is something that many families have to deal with and perhaps the scene would help many to understand the disease. Thanks for sharing with us.

It's a heartbreaking disease and I'm not sure I'm going to be able to watch it any time soon. My father has dementia and we're treating it with medication and watching him closely for other signs of deterioration in his thinking and reasoning skills.
I'm sure this is a fabulous movie - just might hit too close to home right now. Movies help me escape some of the sad - bring on the stupid comedy (Bridesmaids) or a good romantic chick flick. Lol.

Such a horrific disease.  It frightens me so much.  My grandmother died in the beginning stages of Alzheimers (of another cause) and knowing she was spared what could have been ahead was one of the biggest comforts to us.

John McCormack- Debbie,  I understand that for some this movie may be too soon or not the right timing because of family situations. My aunt suffered from Dementia and Alzheimer's and it was frightfully uncomfortable at the time.

In my opinion, the movie wasn't made to cause fear but to understand that the underlying core to one's spirit, is love and that remains with us always. Perhaps you should preview the movie without John and decide for yourself if it's worth seeing now, later, or never.

My prayers for healing for families of those with this mysterious disease that seems to encroach into our homes and our lives without warning.
