To Be Successful In Sales We Have To Market Ourselves

Reblogger Rob Arnold

Marketing is truly not that hard.  Just making yourself visible to your customers and potential customers can go a long way.  Then stay consistent and keep at it.  So many people try marketing for a little while and then stop doing it and thus fall off the radar.  Success does not happen overnight.  Great information below.

I have been involved in sales for about 40 years.  During those 40 years, I have attend several seminars on how to be successful in sales.  Two thing always comes through loud and clear and are common in every presentation.  The first is in order To Be Successful In Sales We Have To Market Ourselves The second is most of the presenters make the process of marketing yourself much more complicated than it needs to be.

An ActiveRain Member whose marketing skills I have a lot of respect for is Barbara Todaro, and her marketing message is simple and clear.  Barbara's message is for us to continuously market ourselves and our service.  We need to market in good times and bad time, keep the message simple and to the point.  I echo Barbara's message because it is also one that has worked well for me for 40 years.  But in order to market ourselves successfully we do need to possess some skills, be organized, and use common sense.  For me this means We must:

  • Have Product Knowledge - you cannot sell effectively what you do not know or understand.  If you know your product better than anyone else, it comes through with every word you say.  You don't have to tell others how knowledgeable you are about the product, it will be obvious.
  • Know Your Customers - Know what their needs and expectations are.  This means you have to:
    • Listen, there is a reason why we have two ears, but just one mouth, and
    • Maintain contact by following up with your customers often.
  • Be Unique - Make your customers feel that you are able to do for them what know one else can, and you will create Raving Fans.
  •  Be Visible - this means that you have to be out in the community and make yourself a part of the life of the community.  Network whenever possible, and participate in community events.
  • Be Persistent - don't give up the first time something fails, give it a chance.  Not everything is an instant success, in fact the things that are most successful are the ones that we continuously work at.
  • Have A Plan - it is best if you write down what you want to do and how you want to accomplish it.  In order to get to where your going you need a map with clear directions of how to get there.

If you truly follow through on the six suggestion above you will accomplish your goal.  It is this simple, and requires very little money, however, it does require a major investment of our time, and budgeting our finances wisely.

To Be Successful In Sales We Have To Market Ourselves.  Don't over think things, be consistent, and keep your marketing simple & focused.

I just bookmarked this. I have been thinking a lot lately about what makes for a truly successful office/professional and I think the number one thing really is lead generation.

Product knowledge and customer service make closing the deal and staying in an industry easier but without the strong marketing and incoming flow of leads, you really don't have much...
