I have to admit that ever since our former Coldwell Banker office announced that they made the switch to Prudential (the other Big Blue), we've been inundated with recruiting emails, recruiting phone calls, and secret love notes placed on our pillows.

Okay, not the love notes, but you get the drift.

So, is the grass always greener on the other side of the fence? I have an opportunity to find out firsthand with this well-thought out corporate switch, without even needing to return my office keys.

I understand that the breath of a successful brokerage firms is recruiting and retaining quality agents, but it would need to be a seriously good offer to ever make me want to make such a switch again! At this point, I didn't even need to leave my office chair, my messy desk (I know where *everything* is), my cushy team's corner office, or change my phone numbers! Heck, I didn't even need to change my signs or my business cards, as the company thought ahead to do that for me.

Although my biggest responsiblity is learning new programs for clients, informing my clients, and switching over my websites, I can't imagine wanting to do this again for a long time..... unless I was getting paid in Euros at this point.

So, anyone want to pay my split in Euros? If so...I might consider listening to what you have to say!

At least it didn't hit you hard or mess up your business. I WILL say that the grass is greener where it is redder (Keller Williams red, at least) *grin*  Had to put that plug in!

I know the grass was greener for me when I went with RE/MAX...I had been with one of the Big Blue companies.

Tammy (and/or Terry!) - change is good sometimes.  I'm glad it was greener for you when you made a switch!  Many people find quite the opposite, no matter who is standing on the greener side waving them over.

The grass has become greener for me with my firm, Helen Adams Realty--a local firm here in Charlotte!  It IS truly a pain to have to make the change and I WILL retire with this firm!!  The hassles of letting all of your clients know, transferring documents, not to mention the desk items and business cards!

Best thing I did for myself and my career is to take a serious, hard look at what kind of brokerage fit best with my strengths and weaknesses.  Changing brokerages has been an extremely beneficial boost to my business, both in increased knowledge, sales and happiness.

Jeannie- Our CB office closed and we had 48 hours to decide what we were doing.  Most of us went to one of our other CB offices (there are 70).  As soon as other brokers found out we were closing, the phone started ringing.  I did interview with different companies and decided to wait to make sure I was making a good decision.  After 4 months of moving to another one of our offices, I decided to change companies and move, YES, AGAIN.

I am happy I changed. Change is wonderful and has brought a whole new energy regarding my business. The marketing, the office environment and the programs for their agents helped me make my decision.

My advice: Always keep your options open and see what else is out there...and yes, sometimes the grass is greener.

Come to think of it, I could use some Euros as well....now time to update my resume:-)  I've been with the same firm for 7 years and have no intentions of leaving, besides what I often times am seeing on the other side isn't a greener grass, but murky sort of mud;-)

Early in my adulthood, I can't even say career, I changed jobs for money alone.  I loved where I was and what I was doing, but the competitor paid more.  At 18 years old I determined I would never move across the fence for money alone.  And doesn't research show that when you are appreciated by your peers and brokers, in the world of Real Estate, people tend to stay longer.  It's not and never been about the money!

Well,

The grass is greener here at KW.

Jeannie, there is a saying, "The best place to work was your last place." Wherever you go, you will have to learn new programs, etc. Are you comfortable in your current office? Do you have good rapport with your Broker? Do you like the office environment? If you can answer yes, you should probably stay. If you answer no, it may be time to make a change. Good luck to you!

Debe - that's great that you found a life-long home with your current brokerage!  You just can't beat that!

Kent - thanks for sharing.  If someone is truly not happy where they are, they need to go looking for what else is out there.

Laura - Wow!  48 hours is just not enough time to make such a decision!  In my case, the decision was made for me, but nothing changed for me other than new programs added that I can offer my clients.  Just about ALL of our other programs are basically in-house, and they are great programs, so things haven't changed much.  I can't imagine making such a decision in just 48 hours!

Jason - don't you have some off-shore account somewhere, anyway?

Evelyn - nobody should make a change for money alone (except Euros!) All kidding aside, there is a lot more to the world and to life than money.  I would never make a decision based on money alone.

Jim - do you know Bill, up above?  LOL.  Thanks for your plug.

Michael - I am very comfortable in my current office, and am not looking to go anywhere!  I was just commenting in my post on the amount of recruiting that has been happening since my company switched franchises.  I think it's kind of exciting, and nobody seems to be offering anything better than what I've already got, right where I am.  I'm planted here, kind of like those flowers in my photo above!

Hi Jeanine,

Love... love... love... Prudential.  I interviewed five firms before I selected Prudential.  Excellent reputation and great working environment.

Jeannie, I've been watching the new Prudential signs pop up all over the county.  They're very distinctive!

Brian - they do look great, don't they!  The key now is for more of them to end up with my name rider on them!

I just wrote a post a few days ago of an agent who wanted to join our company who has worked for six different brokerages in a year! I was amazed that you could do that without going crazy.

WoW Jeannie:  I hope you at least knew the change was coming. I'm sure that must have been a sight to see a Coldwell Banker sign come down and a Prudential sign go up. Good luck and let us know if the grass is still blue in your area.

I started with Realty Executives and 6 months later I moved to Coldwell Banker for 4 1/2 years. After a 1 1/2 year debate I did go to Keller Williams where I have been for the last 4 years. I always keep a open mind and I get offers often of the grass being greener on the other side.  Is it ? I will keep the options open.

We just had a Re/Max close it's doors and a Prudentual office of 3 is said to be closing one of its offices and we have a new franchise just arriving. Real Living is now in town. WoW  Look at the chages.

Hi, Jeannie! I just read somewhere that the supermodel, Giselle, demands her payment to be in Euros...if only we could, too! =)

Maura - I've heard the same thing about her, and who can blame her!  I've read somewhere that stores in NYC are starting to take payments for sales in Euros.
