Happy Groundhog Day!

Punxsutawney PA Groundhog PhilA few years ago we visited Punxsutawney PA and found out that Phil has a home right in the city park.  He was sleeping in his condo next to the library so we could not get a photo of him.

There was no doubt that we were in the right town as there were many statues and stores named in his honor.

We were surprised to find out that the actual event on February 2nd takes place on the outskirts of town at Gobbler's Knob.  Also we were surprised to find out that the town used in the movie "Groundhog Day" was not Punxsutawney.  Too bad.  Anyway it was fun to visit the town and to see where Phil predicts the next 6 weeks for winter.

You have to have a niche for the tourists and they found theirs in something very simple.

Hi Hannah Williams !  Did not know about that one on Staten Island.  I did see a report on the news last night about another town where the mayor of the town got bit on his ear by their local groundhog.  A tradition that is spreading!

Hi Sharon Lee ! You are welcome!  It was fun to visit and to find Gobbler's Knob.

Hi Christine Smith !  I bet you have!  Your state is getting hit harder than where we are in SE PA.  Stay warm!!

Hi Debbie Laity ! It would be fun to be there when Phil comes out to do his thing!  Watched Groundhog Day with Bill Murray yesterday...Always get a chuckle from that movie.

Stay warm everyone!

I prefer the prediction of groundhog Chuck in Staten Island. Chuck predicted an early spring.

I hadn't considered the permanent housing for Phil during the year.  That's a really cool place they have for him.  I can imagine kids visiting the library, always taking a moment or two to visit with him.

Roy Kelley I like what Chuck has to say!  Funny photo!

Suzanne Strickler we have had a cold winter thus far here in SE PA!  So glad there is not a lot of snow like last winter.  Hope all is well with you!

Myrl Jeffcoat the town seems to really embrace Phil, which makes visiting there fun.  There are even decorated statues around town  helping to advertise businesses.  Here is a sampling.
