There Was A Youngster Invasion

at Home Depot

Okay, I needed to run to Home Depot right down the street from the job on Saturday morning and it was going to be quick. I didn't need anything else but one sheet of 1/2” sheetrock, that's all!

Much to my surprise Home Depot was having there regular kids workshop which they do just about every Saturday for the young kids who want to learn. This morning they were building wood planters I believe.

There were about 100 people all hammering at the same time. It was pretty exciting to watch but there was a problem. They were all set up in front of the stack of sheetrock that I needed. A lot of things had to happen in order for me to get my simple purchase completed.

Great idea Home Depot has to create a new generation of folks who know how to use a hammer.

i hope the entertainment was worth the delay in getting your sheetrock.

Good morning Tom. Home Depot is very smart to off these events for kids. You talk about building loyalty, they have figured it out for sure.

Such a cool thing that Home Depot offers and great experience for the kids....for you, not so much when they were set-up in front of what you needed.

Oh gosh, what a pain.

What a smart marketing idea for HD to drive in-store traffic.

Good morning Tom. I have seen several of these workshops set up in the local stores as well. Talk about marketing genius.

I don't believe we have any of that around here.  At least not that I've heard of. It would be nice if we did

Poor planning on the part of the store management.

My daughter takes Zack to these events all the time.  He loves them.

Tom,  It is often those "easy" "simple" and "quick" tasks that end up at a road block. Boy, yours certainly did.  Now the bigger question is:  Why did the project planner at Home Depot not allow for the fact that someone might need sheet rock that day ... and move some to another location to be easily accessed?  Never-mind ... lets not go there.

It is great to see the kids learning new skills. Consumers may not fully appreciate the activities that disrupt their shopping if they wait until Saturday morning.
