Are you too busy? Its a lie...no you aren't!

Have you ever had someone say to you..."Ohhhhh, I have just been too busy lately."

Its a very interesting thing to me sometimes.  The person who never returns their phone calls, never answers their phones, or is always running late to appointments.  This even happens with the person that does it occasionally.   Have you ever had someone promise to do something...and than when you ask if it was done they say "Ohhhh things have been really hectic, things have just been crazy."

OR EVEN THE FAMOUS...."Im only 5 minutes away from the appointment.  Traffic is awful."  (When they just got on the road, and they were praying to see an accident on the side of the street so that they could say there was one.)

Its all Excuses. Are you really busier than the next person? Are you busier than the person who is selling 5, 10, 20, 40 homes a month?

The person who makes up all these excuses are trying and striving to find a reason why they didnt do it.  So they make up excuses.   I know someone who is always stressed and always talking about how busy they are.  The truth is....are they busier than the other person? NO! They have learned to make excuses and talk about how busy they are.  They are literally stressing themselves out.

Create Results not Excuses.  Successful people create Results.  Strugglers create Excuses.

If you focus on creating results instead of naturally looking for excuses, you will excel.  If there is always an excuse....you will never be successful.

Create  a Motto:

My motto is "IM ALWAYS AVAILABLE FOR YOU AND YOUR REFERRALS!"  This does something for me because A. Im holding myself accountable that I cant ever say Im too busy...because Im always advertising Im always available.  B. It lets people know Im here for them.  They will always feel like they can come to me and trust me with their business.

The next time you are thinking you are too busy remember:

A. Im always available..

B. If things really are hectic...what can I do to make it so that Im always available?

Anyone have any other pointers on how they can train their mind to Always be available?

I have to say I'm guilty of this.  I am working very hard on it though.  Oh shoot, I've got a 3:00 appt., just got on to check emails, don't know how I ended up on here.  Wow, gotta go!  Case in point, I think we stretch ourselves too thin, or it's just poor time management or both.

Dave, on the same note,, I never ask a non busy person a favor,,,, a busy person always manages to do things in a timely manner...

Great work Dave it is so true. If you continue to tell agents you are too busy or other you are too busy, then your clients will begin to reciprocate this. They will be too busy for you and begin working with other agents. Thanks for the reminder

Great thoughts!  At the same time, taking personal time is important.  And hey, banks are needed by everyone, but they mostly run normal business hours.  ;-)

I get the point, thought.  Let's quit making excuses and GO TO WORK!  =)

Great reminder to determine how to better manage our time. OR cut out those 'things' that are not producing income or JOY to us.

Hi Dave!!! Great article. No more excuses its time to go to work. Two questions. One-do you always answer your phone? Second- Are you available 24 hours a day, Seven days a week or have you set your own hours? Just curious on balance and success.

So often we are too busy "working" to deal with people, right?  At the end of the day what is more important?  Is it that my to-do list of office work gets accomplished, or is it that I have invested my time and energy into forging a relationship with someone...excellent reminder of what is at the heart of our business and personal lives as well.  The motto, "how important is it?" helps me to prioritize.  When I am at the end of my life will I be glad I spent time on _________.  Thanks for the reminder.

Dave - I completely agree!  There are some people who don't feel valued unless they are busy.  They program themselves to be busy to keep for feeling useless.

Self image and self talk can handicap  a person who is sound on their self worth.  I'm glad you spoke on this issue.

Debbie, oh no...I dont work 24/7.   Im always available means I make time for you and call you back right away.  Doesnt mean I make time for you on Sunday or after 8pm.  You definitely have to set your limits.  Its just a reminder for the people who always seem to come up with an excuse of why they didnt do something.
