I had an interesting experience the other day with a client. I received a call from our company website and the client - who is a pretty big investor - said he picked me to show him homes because of all the agents listed, I looked the oldest.

No, I'm not upset.

It does remind of the time when I was five, wanting to be ten, though. I guess buyers associate greying hair with experience and that matters. I mean, to think like an out of town buyer for a minute, I guess I would trust someone who seemed to know the area (and had grown old there) as opposed to someone who only looked like a Realtor.

I'm just turning thirty. I guess I have a while to wait.

10 Comments on Real Estate Investors Pick Older Agents

You don't look old at all!  Those people are crazy!

You nowhere look old. Maybe they didn't like the other pictures on the website! :)

Peoples perceptions are very funny. I have found now that I'm older (45) that people perceive me as knowing a lot. I have always kept myself informed regarding industry trends etc.. but years ago people wouldn't give me a second look because of my age.

As I stated above, now that I'm in my mid forties I appear to look like a Banker or Lawyer and now more people take notice of me.

If this investor ends up Buying with you, that's great  and then treat yourself to something extra special!

Good job Grandma' !

(Sorry, I couldn't resist)  - :-)

It's funny.  I guess people just have a preference in mind.  I'm 40 but look a bit younger so I always seem to get the.... "Nooooo  You're not 40 are you???  (Sometimes I have to show ID..)

As long as you get clients, it's all the same with me...

That's weird.  My "Grandma" comment showed up but my info did not.  I re-logged in just so you know which immature agent posted that comment...

I would take it as a compliment. Not that you look old, but that with age comes experience.  He probably that that you knew more, and felt relaxed with that thought.  Hats off on being *old* LOL.

Purva -- this makes my day!  Pat Kennedy (sorry, i haven't gotten it down how to link to a post (will be happy about any explanations, though) has had a lot of posts about how RE agents don't retire.  There must be many good reasons for that, if it only gets better from now on :-)

That is pretty funny. I got my license at 19, so for me it is a lot nicer now to have a little experience and look older to those people who pick on outside appearance.

Hey, thanks all for chiming in. I guess I struck a chord here. :) I'm realizing it gets better as we get older, so there!
