When most people hear the words ‘real estate video’ they generally think of a property listing video. But, did you know, this is only one of many uses for video in real estate?

One of the most important, yet under-utilized, type of real estate video is the Introduction Video. This is areal estate videoshort, usually under 45 seconds, video with you on-camera, telling your viewers about yourself and the services you provide.  This is probably the most important video you will ever do.

Your introduction video is your commercial. This is the time for you to shine. To show the world who you are and why you should be their Realtor®. Do not do a selfie video on your Smartphone. Remember the old saying ‘you never get a second chance to make a good first impression’ and this is especially true with introduction videos.

When professionally produced, your video will look great – the lighting will be properly balanced, your hair and make-up will look perfect, you will have been given tips on how to dress for the camera, there will be a background with some depth to it; plus a few shots of the area you sell or maybe of your office.

All of this will go a long way to reinforcing your professionalism, while at the same time increasing your client’s comfort level as they will feel they already know you, even before you meet in person. The instant you get off the phone with a prospective client, email them your introduction video. They have just finished talking to you, they’ve heard your voice and now they know what you look like. This is huge.

Let them know that you are the right agent to sell their home; a professionally produced video will make you stand out from any other agent they contact. Be sure to give your prospective clients solid and useful reasons they should contact YOU and not your competitor. Put yourself in your client’s shoes: what are they going to need to hear from you to make them hire you as their agent?

Don’t want to be on-camera? Do you have your photograph on your business card? This is just an extension of that. But, if you really aren’t ready for your close-up just yet, you can be on camera for just a few seconds at the start and then can do a voice-over for the rest of the video.

Properly tagged, uploaded to YouTube, embedded on your webpage, and added to all your social media, it will improve your chances of being found by search engines such as Google.

We use Canons.  My little personal camera is a Canon T3i.  It would be a great place to start. If you buy it from a local camera shop, see if they offer lessons on how to use DSLR cameras. If not, or if you get if from Amazon, there are a ton of videos on YouTube. Just search for 'how to use a ___________".

Then buy a tripod for it.
