What a great thing for some people to do. Are you going to take part? I'm afraid I won't have the time.

Hi Sharon Lee !  Yes you probably have a lot of birds at your place!  The year so far is rather cold but moving along quickly already!  Thank you!  You have a good year also!

Hi John Meussner , Yes it is very helpful to see what is going on with birds across the country.  And a good outdoor activity for people also.

Hi Debbie Laity , I have not taken part yet with this one.  I do partake in the yearly Christmas count with a small group of people.  I always learn a lot from those people.  And is fun to be with people who enjoy birds like I do!  Understand about not enough time!  Stay warm!

Hi Gloria and Doug,

I love birds and feeding the birds gives me pleasure. They come back with a song and a sight to behold. I wish everyone had a passion for birds and offered an open invitation into their gardens!

That's a great picture of the doves, Gloria!  Several years ago, when we had the West Nile virus going through, we lost a number of birds.  What I have noticed since then, is a plethora of birds which I haven't seen the likes of before.  I've sometimes wondered what caused that.

One thing I've been sad about however, is we had a population of beautiful green parrots before West Nile came through.  I counted at least 2 dozen of them in my backyard tree at one time.  They had been around for a couple of decades. They are no more.  They were non-native, but I loved 'em anyway!

Patricia Feager, MBA, GRI, Cert Negotiations Expert, Military Relo Prof  birds are a relaxing to watch and to hear their lovely songs.  It always amazes me when people cannot even identify a robin or sparrow, such common birds around here.  But then, I enjoy birds and want to know what they are....

Thank you Myrl Jeffcoat , Gosh sorry to hear you lost those parrots!! I hear of the impact of the West Nile Virus, but do not see it here, mostly crows in fields in New Jersey as per radio reports.  I remember years ago when I lived in Southern Cal, I was sitting outside in the town of Orange where there were a lot of trees and I kept hearing a sound that was like a car engine starting to turn over....shortly after I saw a handful of green parrots fly away!  It was such a treat for me!!

Hi Gloria Todor

I meant to do this but forgot. Maybe next year as I have moved to the foothills and there are a lot of birds out here. Their has been a lot of  singing this past week so I am guessing the male birds are trying to impress the females.

My other home had a huge family of Mourning Doves and they would have new families 3-4 times a year as they mate for life. They hung around my pool and the trees of the backyard. I really miss my doves but I do have a lot of finches, sparrows, blue birds and hummingbirds so it is OK here.
