We're big fans of love and fun here in Pinellas, and there's definitely no shortage of fun events going on all over the county this Valentine's Day weekend! If you're looking for something fun to do with your significant other, your whacky friends, your family, or even just yourself, here's a couple of fun suggestions for how to make this year memorable for all:
For some fun with the family or friends, St Petersburg is hosting its second annual Mardi Gras in the Edge! Businesses throughout the District are participating with special contests, door prizes, discounts, live music, or other fun activities to suit everyone's taste! The theme this year is "Purple Reigns", and the Purple Reigns Second Line Parade is slated to be a big hit this year with tons of enthusiastic Mardi Gras fans marching up and down the streets around 4:00pm. Afterwords, Ricky P's is holding a Mardi Gras Costume Contest at 5:00 pm, immediately followed by the Gumbo Boogie Band playing Cajun Zydeco music for entertainment. Some other highlights include making your own funky bead necklace and Valentine folk art at the Creative Clay Cultural Arts Center, jugglers, stiltwalkers, and other roaming performers and musicians appearing throughout the day!
Good ol' Downtown Dunedin is hosting its 23rd Annual Craft Festival on Main Street on the day of love as well featuring some of the finest crafters in the country and an array of eclectic exhibits that will simply wow you! Most everything on display is handcrafted and make for very unique and memorable Valentine’s Day gifts. The festival includes folk art, pottery, personalized gifts, handmade clothing, handbags & accessories, handmade cards, leather, stained glass and so much more! Nearby will be a Green Market as well offering a wide variety of plants including exotics, as well as dips and other gourmet items. As always, admission to this event is free and open to the public, so bring everyone you know that loves arts and crafts!
Both Tampa and Clearwater know how to set the mood with their many great Valentine's dinner packages. The most notable is the Yacaht Starship dinner cruise, where you and your loved one can enjoy a nice, elegant dinner on the water with fun musical entertainment on the top deck and romantic views of the intercoastal. For a lovely dinner with that special someone, you can also make reservations to dine at the "Pink Palace", St. Pete's own Don Cesar's Sea Porch or Maritana Grille.
