Snow MA, have you had enough? Everywhere you look people are either grumbling or holding their secret smile. It is finally winter here in New England and that usually means snow. It is serious this year and we have already broken all kinds of records and the white stuff is still coming down. They talk about the storm of 1978, but we already have more snow on the ground right now than fell during that terrible storm. Let's put this in perspective. This year, actually last year during this winter 6 feet of snow fell on Buffalo. The piddly 3 going on 4 feet is not a match for the violence of that storm. Schools are shut, roads are almost impassable and parents as well as their children are a bit stir crazy. During this time it is important that you watch out for ice dams forming on your house. Those long dripping icicles that overlap your roof and hang off your gutters.
All that weight hanging off your gutters will pull them from the roof, or create cracks that will allow water to get behind the wood. When it is time to thaw out all that water moves down insider your walls and you have serious issues to deal with. The best thing to do is get that snow off your roof and certainly do not allow long icicles to hang off your roof and gutters. There are a number of ways to prevent this, but at this point, if you haven't put in place any prevention than you are in reaction mode and it is time to knock off those icicles.
375-Westfield-Dedham-Weld Pond and 4 feet of snow.
With more than 4 feet of snow on the ground we needed to dig a path to our grill. Here in New England grilling is not just a warm weather summery activity. I have spent many a snowy evening grilling our dinner and loving it. It is not quite camping, but it is an hour or so outside in the elements preparing a portion of the meal for the family. There are some sure things you can guarantee in New England in the winter. We are ok with the snow here in New England. Walking around at night you will always smell someone grilling and the smell of the wood burning in the fireplaces. I don't think we have had enough Snow MA, have you had enough?
