The Lise Howe Group's "Foodie Friday". We visit local restaurants in the DC neighborhoods we buy and sell properties. Helping you find a place to live & Eat!
I have a listing close to H Street and the Atlas District so I am in the neighborhood frequently around lunchtime - and I am frequently hungry! I have started including Taylor Gourmet as a regular part of my visits to my listing - You know the drill - Meet the buyer, check to make sure there are plenty of brochures, verify that the lights are all off and the doors locked, go to Taylor's for a sandwich or salad. I promise - it doesn't get better than Taylor's at 1116 H Street, NE. Last week I had a Cherry Street Sandwich - with roast beef, arugula, cherry pepper garlic sauce, and brie. Except for the fact that it was so juicy it dripped all over my coat as I ate it in the car -I am a raving fan! The Spring Garden Street sandwich - with hand breaded zucchini cutlets, lemon basil goat cheese, marinara sauce and arugula - sounded pretty good too!
This week, on my rounds to check up on my listings - I stopped at Taylor's Gourmet to get a salad. I opted for the Logan Square with chopped kale, roasted butternut squash, green onion, dried cranberries, toasted pecans, granny smith apples, gorgonzola and an apple cider vinaigrette. Another delicious meal!!
Happily, I am going back to the H Street corridor this weekend for a listing presentation. I am keeping my fingers crossed that I get the listing - because I want to keep going back to Taylor's! There are lots of Philly style Italian-ish hoagies and sandwiches and salads that I haven't tried yet!
Just in case you are wondering, Taylor Gourmet was started by two transplanted Philadelphians who missed the home grown Italian sandwiches that they had been raised on. The building on H Street is their first restaurant, but now Taylor's is in Dupont Circle, Penn Quarter, City Vista, 14th Street, Merrifield, Ballston, and Bethesda, just a short walk from my favorite townhouse community, Kenwood Forest,
I don't know if they needed a Realtor when they relocated to Washington, but I would have been glad to help them!
