I want to be a Realtor...Now What (part 2)

So!  A multitude of people ran out and got their Real Estate License, having been convinced by the media and friends they were going to be millionaires by the end of the year.

They got their License through a big name company that sponsors "newbies".  At career night, they have the top selling agent in their market talk about "I went from living in my car, to 3 million dollars in just 6 months".  HOOK LINE AND SINKER!  They sign up, and in their minds, start spending money on great vacations, nice cars, and top of the line suits.  But then reality sets in....and they start spending money alright.....on notepads, and pens with their names on it, and seed packets, and open house signs, and flags....can't forget the flags!  Oh! And wait!  You have to invest in a website!  "I KNOW you don't have any listings, but if you want to be successful, you have to fake it till you make it!"  And LISTINGS!  Take lots and lots of listings....and did I mention flags???  How about pumpkins to pass out in the Fall?  A cell phone is a MUST.  Make sure you get the top of the line model!  People will be really impressed!  Remember, you're new and so you must "Fake it till you make it"!  Oh, and one other thing, that Honda that you drive...Yes, it's nice, and gets great mileage, but if you're new, you don't want people questioning your ability to sell a house if you don't get a top of the line car...you can lease it!

And so it goes...by the end of the first month they have spent exorbitant amounts of money on NOTHING that will TEACH them to grow their business!!

Now don't get me wrong...a lot of what I mention above CAN play a critical part in our Career, but it's NOT what got us to where we are today!

Yes, and what about the Training Classes???  They are herded to a room with a bunch of other people, new and nervous, and afraid to ask any questions for fear of sounding stupid....that's helpful!  You have a choice in your training classes as well....If you pay___________ you can sit in the class for 2 full weeks, before going out and drumming up some business....but in the meantime, "if you have any family members or neighbors that could help you out, you should go and ask them...."  Yes, that's the ticket!  Go panhandle the people closest to you instead of learning how to develop a business plan!

Why do I mention all this??  Because the truth is that we have ALL been there!  But we hung on...those of us that were lucky enough to have a great manager who helped us along.  Those of us who were told by some senior agents to stop spending money on this or that.  That the only way to develop your business was to WORK in your business!

So where do you learn this???  Stay tuned, or call Amanda at 714/837-7753

WOW, did you hit the nail on the head! What's the point of "marketing" yourself with a bunch of expensive "Stuff" if you dont know what to do when you get someone that actually wants to buy or sell! You can only FAKE it for so long!

I can't wait for the next segment.  Where was this info when I first started?  We got all the same stuff about name recognition, market yourself, blah blah blah. . . . from people who haven't done a deal in what 10, 20, 30 years.
