Traditionally President's Day Weekend is a big event in the auto industry. It's usually a great opportunity to shake off the winter dip in sales and really kick off the new year/season of sales.
Dealerships are normally fully staffed this weekend, aggressive ads have been placed and most showrooms are a festive place with balloons, pizza and hot dogs available for all its guests.
This Presidents Day Weekend in New England will look a little different. We've already experienced several weeks of snowstorm after snowstorm, including one blizzard. Many towns and cities have run out of funds and resources to handle another storm and here comes one that for parts of New England will carry as much force as a category 2 hurricane. Forecasters have even warned of the possibility of thunder snow which is thunder and lightning during the snow storm. Sounds pretty cool actually.
Anyway, dealerships have had to have had a slower than normal sales month this February because of the weather and now that this important weekend will most likely be a bust I am sure everyone will be looking forward to March.
The Presidents Day Sale most likely will be extended to the end of the month. I suspect that anyone looking to purchase a new car next weekend could probably get a great deal because it is month end and most dealerships will try so salvage some of the February's sales figures.
I also predict that sales this coming spring in the auto industry will be absolutely crazy. There has to be plenty of consumers postponing the purchase of a new vehicle for a month or two, mix that with the selling side looking to close some deals and this should be a good time for everybody.
Plus, from experience, I know that once a dealership starts selling selling and selling its inventory, there is a snowball effect, there is so much excitement going on and everyone at the dealership gets caught up in the excitement that you really start seeing all sorts of crazy offers getting accepted just to keep the drive alive.
