I get several phone calls a week from companies promising to get me on the "first page of Google". I also get countless emails promising to acheive the same effect. Each of these companies can "claim" to acheive this amazing result because of the fact there is no Official first page of Google. Each search is unique for that point and time and what you search for.
My favorite respsonse if I have a few extra minutes during one of these telemarkting calls is to humor them and test their effectiveness. For example, someone calls and says I am a Google Preferred Marketing partner and I found your webiste on page 4 of Google, I can get you on page 1, just log into www._____.com, and I will show you!" I back them up and say "I'm sorry, what business are you in again?" Then, I plug in their response to Google myself (i.e. SEO optimization, Google rankings, key word placement, etc.,) and low and behold, the people calling never show up on that infamous first page of Google! It is my own little bit of saddistic humor to hear them try to back peddle out of that.
Trying to define where Google starts, is equivelent to saying definitively where the ocean begins. Does the Ocean start at YOUR first point of contact (i.e. the beach) or is it upstream at the river or stream that flows into it? Maybe it starts in the "cloud" since moisture drops from the cloud? Or does it begin in a mountain lake because it has to evaporate to turn into moisture to become a cloud to rain down to become a stream to become an ocean?
In my humble opinion, these telemarketing snake oil salesman are equivelent to selling signs at each point along the way, since if you look at that vantage point, you will amazingly be seen as showing up on the official first page of Google.
It is really hard to get top billing for a major key word or key word sequence such as "Boise" or "Boise Idaho Real Estate", but knowing how to play the game can increase your odds. I am very pleased that in 2009, I wrote a blog that still shows up to this day on that infamous #1 spot on the first page of Google for "answer to world peace disclosed". As I mentioned, Google is dynamic, so some day, someone will outrank it, but until then, I am please to show up in the #1 Spot on the first page of Google for such an import issue!
