It Is Important That The Colors Match
A poor patch job will always catch the eye and look bad after the work is complete. Matching the paint color is equally important. How many times have you seen a repair get painted with a slightly different color? It kind of draws your eye to the repair instead of making it disappear.

Good morning Tom. Yes, you are right it is important that colors match and that a coat of Kilz or similar product has been applied first to keep stains and colors from bleeding through.

IMHO if they didn't take the time to match the paint it brings up volumes of questions as to what they did on the repair. Let me rephrase that questions as to what they did not do to the repair.

Tom, the reality is the entire area will need to be repainted as few people have the skills to match colors.

I think I will give the relaxing thing a try Endre Barath, Jr. .... who am I kidding, it ain't going to happen. 
There is protective value in painting surfaces, but cosmetic is importnat too!

I am familiar with the stain blocking products Michael Thornton but many do not see the value in using them.
We see this a lot when the customer provides the paint Joe Petrowsky . :)

The reply that I hear is "It's better then nothing". My thoughts are more toward what are we aiming at? "Good enough" seems to have been the target on this one Roger D. Mucci .
I think you are right Bruce Walter . If the paint can't be matched, let's bring it to the next best break-point - usually am edge or corner!
Hi Tom -- I was with a client recently and after discussing his home we stepped outside and we both noticed the recent paint on one side of the home was two different colors.
I think a potential buyer who sees this will wonder what else is wrong(or overlooked).
Details matter.
