It’s Not What You’d Expect For a Neighborhood Pot Shop
Yesterday I was out running errands with my husband and we decided to stop and grab a quick bite to eat for lunch. As we sat down at a table by the window, we had a full view of one of the newest Marijuana Retail Shows in South Aurora, Colorado. The unique thing about this Pot Shop is that it resides in an old bank building. It is very high tech and VERY popular. We enjoyed watching the activity for about 20 minutes. In that time, we saw car after car pull up to this establishment. And we aren’t talking hippee types going in to buy some weed. Nope, I am talking little gray and white haired old ladies pulling up in the Cadillac’s. That’s right! More than half of the customers entering the establishment yesterday afternoon, were little old ladies in nice vehicles.
Out of all the customers I saw pull up to Euflora in Aurora, only one looked like they fit the part of a pot shop customer. The rest were people like you and me who you would never suspect of shopping in a pot shop. Very interesting and eye opening for sure.
In November of 2012, Colorado became the first state (with Washington) to legalize Marijuana for recreational use. Since then, we have been at the forefront of setting new guidelines and incorporating this legal right into our communities.
The State of Colorado is enjoying a huge influx of money from the marijuana tax revenues. According to the Washington Post, Colorado sold $313 million worth of cannabis for recreational use in 2014 and $386 million worth for medical use. This resulted in about $63 million in tax revenue for the State of Colorado. They have more money than they know what to do with.
If we can finally get the FEDS to recognize the laws at State levels and allow these business to use FDIC insured banks, it would be a good day. Presently these business owners are forced to deal in an all cash business. This is dangerous for all and it just doesn’t make sense. So come on Feds. Pull your heads out of the sand and get on board. This isn’t going away.
