More and more pools no longer have to stand on their own . It is becoming more popular in Southern California to enhance the enjoyment and ambience of the pool setting with creative thought out décor which reflects or  reveals the pools owner and taste. One intriguing means of accomplishing this is the use of colorful poolscape design.

Over  the last 60 some odd years many studies have been conducted with regards to color and ones personality.  I myself have conducted my own personal study and found that often the effect of the color goes hand in glove with the object. For instance;

Piles of GREEN paper ( as in money)  -  excited, hopeful, independent, balanced

On the other hand,

Piles of GREEN  peas        ( needing hulled) - listless, lack of spontaneity, distracted,

RED liquid  ( as in mercury going up and pool is accessible) - eager, athletic, sexy, playful

On the other fin,

RED liquid (as in my blood leaking out) - frantic, erratic, unreliable, dead

BROWN (as in chocolate) - joyful, consumed, good - natured, cheerful, gluttonous

At the other end,

BROWN ( as in smelly) - apathetic, non-committal, aloof, avoidance

However, if you want a more formal analysis let me refer below to Barbara Richardson's ( director of color marketing services for the Color Design Studio, part of ICI Paints, in Strongsville, Ohio) summary  as found on the Fuller Obrien Web site,  http://www.fullerobrien.com/NUSFOB/colorfeatures/colorpsychology.jsp

Wendy:

This is really a great post. My favorite color when I was young was RED but as I have gotten older I find myself liking blue as in Caribean blue. I need a beach home.

Wendy,

Congratulations on a great post.  I find this information interesting in how color regulates mood and feeling.  This is so true.  I myself love a lot of colors, but mostly prefer YELLOW.  So I found it interesting to the association of color and personality. I use color in a lot of my stagings, as apposed to just neutral tones.  Color does add excitment, and definately can change the feel of any room.  I love the picture of the purple pool at the end of your article.  Wish that was my back yard!

Windy - This is so interesting.  Many of the personality traits apply to me for each color and I have several favorite colors.  Does this mean I have multiple personalities?  That would explain a lot!   Sybill

I wish I could get this post to the home stagers. I think they would be interested in this post too!  When I have my pool lights on at night I put on hold the purple color.

Uh Oh is right!  Red is my favorite, blue is next.  I am wearing a red and blue striped shirt that is at least 15 years old.  I don't get out much.  What the neck are you doing up so late on a school night?

Windy - I didn't know what to think, this friend of my daughter's said "Hey, dog" to me when she came over.  My daughter said " no, mom, she thinks you are cool."  Like, "What up dog" to your friends.  I was kidding you actually - I don't like to be a "cool" mom.  I tell my daughters, your friends can think you are cool.  I like it better when they think I am a B____.  That way, I know I am doing my job.  LOL

Do you sleep?
