Defect or Warranty ? Give New Products/Appliances Careful Examination

If you purchase a new appliance...have new carpeting put in...replace your....remodel your...update your.....be sure that after...or in some cases, depending on item/project....During the installation...you do a very careful inspectionCarpeting.

In some natural materials   there can be a variation in color or texture....or appearance. If you have hardwood floors, cabinetry, trim etc...wood has  different appearances...knots in cherry wood can be quite prominent. Nature doesn't always them in the less conspicuous spot...we look at them as part of their "interesting personality." knot in cherry wood  Other people may prefer a more uniform texture and opt for painted cabinets and woodwork.

Granite and other natural stones have lots of color variation...part of their charm to one eye and  a too busy/distracting pattern to another. There is no "wrong taste" it is a matter of personal preference.granite

It is the discoloration that you may find in the  fabric of a piece of furniture, the  dent in the appliance, the gouge in the countertop that cause you  concern.  Defects in materials need to  be discovered as soon as the  item is delivered or installed.

Be your own detective..a vigiant protector of consumer rights ..you ordered an unblemised brand  new....name that material, appliance, piece of furniture..and deserve to have it in perfect condition.    To avoid  any disagreements about defective materials  that the  installer/retailer/manufacturer/fabricator may claim  is the result of your use or misuese..our advice is "NEVER neglect to  inspect...immediately !" You risk being denied the perfection of the item you purchased  because it was not covered by a warranty when it was  really a defect.       If you are looking to sell or buy a home in southeastern Wisconsin ..know that  you get  two sets of very professional eyes to detect and inspect the home you are selling or the house you  are buying when you call the Hansons ..the service you deserve for all things real estate.

Good morning Sally. Great topic, we have to be our own advocates. If something we purchased is not right, we need to let the right person know immediately, so that the problem can get rectified.

Great reminder, Sally and David. People are often lulled into a false sense of comfott believing they have coverage when they really don't.

Sally, that happened on my last house kitchen installation where the fabricator of the counter top made a boo boo...we worked it out but I called the kitchen designer in immediately  to review it with me.  Always be honest about it I say.

I think I've said it before but the wife jumped the gun on our recent purchase of the house we are currently living in.  The carpet is sooooo bad.  We plan on replacing it soon.  No defect just not our style

I see this so many times with granite. The installer told the homeowner that there would be variations, but she chose an almost white countertop and at the top right corner there was a big orange stain...

Sally and David this is excellent advice, and by the way the granite in the picture looks like what I have for granite counter tops.

Great advice, Sally and David.  If we don;t discover defects early, it will be much more difficult if not impossible to convince the ones responsible at a later time.

Good morning Sally and David,

It is up to us to inspect carefully upon installation so if defects are spotted they can be handled immediately. Later is never a good time to bring up defects..chances are slim you'll be satisfied with how the issue will be handled!
