Eagles on Belmont Bay

Just another day on the Occoquan River for these two Bald Eagles.  Many people don't realize that a Bald Eagle needs to mature to get the distinctive white head and tail.  The juveniles are brown and it will take 5 years for them to mature into a recognizable Bald Eagle.

During the winter in Belmont Bay in Woodbridge VA we are treated to seeing all ages of Bald Eagles fishing and duck hunting.   It's just another great reason to call Belmont Bay home.

Cindy, what a privilege to see those beautiful birds so often. I love to see them in flight. Inspiring.

We have a few nested around my lake too.  I love to go out on the boat and watch them fly in the evenings.  Been a while since I spotted one though.

Mike it's amazing to see so many out right now.  It's mating season and lots of activity.

Tammy since we have a couple of huge wildlife refuges close by we seem to have a growing population.

That's a really great shot.  And I definitely among the many that didn't realize bald eagles were mature eagles.

Cindy - That is such an amazing picture!  I don't believe I've seen a Bald Eagle in the wild.  So, this is a special scene for me.

Chris Ann something I too learned after living in Belmont Bay and having Bald Eagle experts in my neighborhood clue me in.

It pays to have your eyes on the skies! I did see a pair of bald eagles a few months ago at Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square PA.

Carolyn right now our eyes are more on the ice as the Eagles seem to be gathering for hunting ducks since there is to much ice for fishing.

In the western end of our state there are a couple of large lakes and there are nesting sites for bald eagles that do get a lot of attention.  They are beautiful In flight

Cindy, I think I've only seen a bald eagle in the wild once.  Belmont Bay seems to have a lot to offer and must be great to see all the wildlife!
