"If you have a laptop computer and a wireless PC card for internet access (available through cell providers), or would be willing to equip yourself with these, we would like to know, so we can dispatch Esign closings to you. We have all heard this for a while, but I can assure you, it is here."
"... it is here."
I had been sitting on the fence for a long time with regards to eSignings. But I have received several emails over the past few weeks from companies wanting to offer this service to their clients. And I want to offer the service as well.
So I have been responding to them, letting them know that I have the technology and the capability to offer eSignings.
Here is an example of one of the queries that I responded to:

That is basically what the requirements are. I don't have a PC card. Instead, I have a Palm Treo 700p -- a smartphone that works as a wireless modem.
How does it work?
The Palm Treo 700p connects to my laptop computer via the USB sync cable. It is now a wireless modem:
On the desktop of my ThinkPad is an icon for the VZAccess Manager software which will provide the capability of connecting to the internet:
When I click on it, the program opens and I click on the 'Connect' tab. It connects me to the internet using the Verizon wireless network. This requires a subscription to Verizon's 'BroadbandAccess Connect'.

Once I've established a connection, I can access the internet.
When the Palm Treo 700p is used as a wireless modem, I can't use it to make or receive calls. So I have a second cell phone that can be used in case I need to speak with someone at the title company, or for any other reason.
I want to keep the number of wires and cables to a minimum, so I use a wireless mouse.
The IBM ThinkPad also has Wi-Fi capabilities, allowing me to use available Wi-Fi hotspots. With the Palm Treo 700p capable of working as a wireless modem, it's a versatile combination.
The email went on to say that the bank that it works with "... currently closes over 10,000 nationwide. Almost 70% of these units are Esign eligible now."
I'll be ready. I intend to do a lot of tests, going to various parts of the state. And I intend to offer eSignings just about anywhere in Colorado. Even from my mobile office, if necessary:
I will set up a page on my website in the near future providing more information about eSignings, along with any new information that I receive, equipment and capabilities needed, experiences, etc. For now I just wanted to provide you with a brief explanation.
Of course, I still provide remote closing services the old-fashioned way -- with paper.
