Have Some Fun With Color on Your Front Door

doorFront doors are many times a different color than the rest of the house.  Many people use this opportunity to splash some character on their otherwise beige and white exterior paint color.  Many times, we will see a home that is conservative in color until you get to the front door.  An otherwise conservatively painted home can have a bright red door to welcome their guests.

I recently did some research in “Feng Shui and Your Front Door”.  My research revealed that red is not always the best choice for your front door color when it comes to feng shui and positive energy entering your home.

For those of you who are not familiar with the feng shui, it is the Chinese art of creating harmonious surroundings that enhance the balance and energy in your life.

I have always been interested in the way a room makes me feel.  I am uncomfortable in rooms that are put together with no thought of flow and order.  And then there are the homes where the owner has painted every room a different color.  One room is yellow and the next room is blue.

What I found about front doors, is that the color should correlate with the direction the door is facing.  Here is a chart of recommended colors based on door direction:

North facing door:
Feng Shui door color: blue, black, white Material: wooden

North East facing door:
Feng Shui door color: orange, purple, yellow, terra cotta

East facing door:
Feng Shui door color: green, blue, turquoise Material: wooden

South East facing door:
Feng Shui door color: green, turquoise, blue Material: wooden

South facing door:
Feng Shui door color: red, pink, purple Material: wooden

South West facing door:
Feng Shui door color: pink, peach, apricot, orange, yellow

West facing door:
Feng Shui door color: yellow, white, gold, magenta, silver

North West facing door:
Feng Shui door color: magenta, gold, silver, white, yellow

These are some interesting suggestions.  I’m not sure I would enjoy a magenta colored front door, but luckily there are other colors to choose from depending on your facing direction.

Here, a lot of the local people have their doors painted RED Roy Kelley , something to do with good luck, long life etc etc.  I guess as long as the door is not painted in stripes!

Hi Roy.  Those Feng Shui door colors are kind of wild.  Red is good.

Good reblog. It is true, red is not always the best color for a front door.

I love your ideas!  A front door painted the right color to compliment the exterior of the house can set it apart from all the others.

Very interesting tips as I heard that using Red was the main reason for feng shui...

It is sometimes a good practice to revisit old blogs and reblogs. We might even find some good ideas for current posts.
