Red Sparrow is a must read for anyone that loves Spy Novels, I have read more than my fair share and just loved this one. This is Jason’s first novel and it won the Edgar Award for best first novel. Boy, what a way to start off your second career. A bit of back ground on Matthews, he is retired from the CIA (one of the Alphabet companies) He was in the CIA for over 30 years and did recruit Eastern European, the old Soviet Union and others. He has vast knowledge of the subject matter; his wife also had a career with CIA that spanned as many if not more years than Jason.
The main character is Dominika Egorova who is the niece of the a high ranking Soviet Officer, she is trained to target a young CIA agent named Nate Nash; her mission is to find out who the mole is the SVR, who is trading secrets to the Americans. Of course things get complicated when Nash and Dominika fall in love. There is danger lurking in every corner it is a suspense thriller it is also filled with betrayal and torn loyalties. I just finished this book last night and lucky for me the sequel is due out this Spring, if you like clandestine books about the services this is one not to be missed!
