I was 2 months into first real full time job out of college working at a used car finance company learning how to become a loan officer. It was grueling work and felt like a rat race. I remember not fitting in well at this job. I was let go that October with my boss saying "your a great person, but your just not the fit for this company's culture." I really didn't like that in the moment, but I'm now greatful for that decision.
I was 2 months into my new job working for a small business in town doing property management and tenant screening. This job worked well for a little over a year before the demands became more than the pay and began feeling mistreated. I worked in a closet in the office we had that was 5 feet wide and 8 feet long with two big filing cabinets behind me and a large desk meaning you couldn't move the whole time you were there. I remember doing nothing for about 3 months towards the end of that job because my role had changed and I was never given instruction on what to do. Clients loved me, the business not so much.
I was unemployed. I was frustrated with jobs with managers and lack of job opportunity in my area. I sent out over 150 resumes inside of 1 month and never heard back from one. I was reached out by someone at Farmers Insurance to become an insurance agent. I needed a job so I took it to work with another agent as an agency producer. This worked well for about a year and half and then I realized I was getting a bad deal. Working too hard to make enough money every month to pay the bills. I quit a year and half later. Once again clients loved me and the business not so much.
I started in the mortgage business in November. I set 18 appointments wtih realtors inside of the first 30 days of working in the business. I got two deals into underwriting before the end of the year. The best part was how greatful my clients were for me and what I did for them. Another best part, the clients continue to appreciate me and have offered to write me recommendation letters for what I've done! I've met an office of wonderful dedicated people who are driven to be team oriented and successful.
I'm still here in the mortgage business and I enjoy it! First time I've been able to say that out of college. Purely greateful for the clients my coworkers and new friendships that have come out of this journey. I've been in the business 90 days, closed 4 refinances and got my first purchase this week. I'd say 2015 is off to a great start and is rewarding in more ways that I can imagine!
