Marketing vs. Selling
The importance to you between these two concepts might be influenced by the size of your company.
Major companies with name recognition spend a lot of money to market their name. Examples in the real estate industry would be Sotheby's, Berkshire Hathaway, Century 21, Stewart Title, Quicken Loans to name a few.
With name recognition they can employ the best people to sell their listings or services.
Selling requires creating desire in another person to want what you have to offer.
I market myself and my services.
As an Exclusive Buyer's Agent I market my expertise, knowledge and experience to buyers. They expect my services to be above and beyond the average agent. Because I don't work for sellers I am not required by contract or ethics to show and promote company listings.
I sell dreams.
My job is to help a buyer find what they want, regardless who has it listed or if it is for sale by owner. (In the last week I sold 3 properties that were for sale by owner.)
How much time do you spend marketing yourself vs. selling?
