I had a couple in town from the Beach area last weekend. They specifically wanted to look at homes that were in Gated communities, but non-golf course. They found me via my website as I have drop down menus for each city with Gated and non-gated, golf and non-golf course communities.
Rancho Mirage, gated, non-golf course communities, is the City that caught their eye. We ended up at Mirage Cove on the Hillside, overlooking the Desert Valley below. A gated community of only 69 homes, the houses are each unique. Many were built in the 80's and have since undergone extensive renovations. There is a definate MODERN flair to many of the homes, with open spaces in the interior that bleed out directly to the exterior living spaces. Very desert style!
The HOA for Mirage Cove is $430/mo, and includes the gates, two tennis courts, and two heated swimming pools for use by homeowners. Common areas and front yards are also maintained, so not a bad deal. These clients have not decided entirely on which Non-golf course community they will settle in, but have narrowed it down to just 3..all in Rancho Mirage. 
Rancho Mirage is a very central city, and is known for it's proximity to the River with it's shopping, eateries, and movie theatres, as well as being just a few minutes from Restaurant Row on the way to Palm Springs.
