It's already March on Maui

How did that happen?

March is a month of change all across the country and around the world.  For one thing, spring begins in the northern hemisphere.  I'm sure that places like Boston and Michigan and all of Canada will be ready for that.

March in Maui brings some additional changes that don't necessarily occur elsewhere.

First, in a week most of you will change your clocks.  It will be light outside later, the kids won't want to go to bed, you won't know what time to get up, and someone is going to miss a meeting because they forgot to reset their clocks.

February is the heart of whale season on Maui.  In March there are still a lot of whales, but many are already headed for their summer homes in Alaska.

Like the whales, there are still plenty of visitors coming to the island and there will be through March.  But most of us know that after March tourism slows and so does business.

Maui Real Estate Pending Sale Feb 2-15

From a real estate perspective, March is the last month of what we think of as our high season.

February indicated some concern for home sales.  Reported homes sales for the month dropped to only 58.  That is the lowest number of sales for any month since January of 2012.

Hopefully, that's just a blip on the real estate radar.  Condo sales were up almost 10% and pending sales, the leading indicator of future sales, are up about 5%.

You can get the full real estate report for February later this month in the Maui Real Estate Advisor and you can read our Maui Real Estate Advisor year end report right now.
