ARE THERE PET FRIENDLY CONDOS IN BOCA RATON FL?
When people do a search for pet-friendly condos in Boca Raton FL they are often frustrated. The term "pet friendly" can mean many things. To you, pet friendly may mean that lovable 80 lb collie and his two siblings, the Cocker spaniel and the cat or two Golden Retrievers or three tiny Shih Tzus. A condo's definition of pet friendly may mean they accept one cat but no dogs or one dog up to 25 pounds or two dogs up to 60 pounds or even birds or gold fish.
How do you know since, if you're like me, you aren't going without them? And you need to know - up front - not after you fall in love with the condo only to find out you but not your beloved cats are not accepted. They're indoor cats, you say. Yes, I know but they often still will not be accepted by condo associations. Believe me, it happens!
Find out the pet restrictions of the building or community you are looking at; otherwise, you're wasting your time. Why fall in love with a condo in Highland Beach FL that accepts one pet when you have three, or a condo in Delray Beach FL that is pet friendly to a 25 pound dog when your dog weighs 90 pounds? It isn't going to work. Trust me on this. I have had calls the day before closing where people have been approved by a condo association but their beloved pets have not. Hysterical people. (I was not their agent.) Don't let this happen to you!
Are you looking for a condo in Highland Beach FL with a Golden Retriever and a cat or two small dogs or maybe two large dogs? This is important! Listings can be vague when it comes to pet restrictions, and pet restrictions can change from time to time. Price factors in as well.
When looking for pet-friendly condos in Boca Raton FL, you need to tell your agent what type of pets you have - their breeds, their weights and how many you have.
Multiple pets can be problematic and often are. Two small dogs weighing 5 pounds each will likely not be accepted in a community where the regulations state one pet with maximum weight of 25 pounds. Sounds crazy, I know, but it's true.
ARE THERE ANY CONDOS THAT WILL ACCEPT MY PETS?
The answer is maybe yes. However, please know upfront, depending on price, breed and number of pets you have, your choices will be limited. As a pet lover and owner, I'm ok with this. You need to be too if you want to go into a pet-friendly condo in Boca Raton FL.
Many condos in Boca Raton are pet friendly. Some will accept one or two pets up to a maximum weight of 25 pounds. Some will even accept three or more. Some will accept up to 40 pounds. And in some condos, there are no weight restrictions but there are breed restrictions.
And that brings us to the next step. Most pet-friendly condos in Boca Raton FL do not allow what they consider aggressive breeds in their condos. In Boca Raton FL, pet-friendly condos are not pet friendly to restricted breeds. What they mean by restricted breeds are pit bulls, rottweilers and in some cases they go further and have included other large breeds including German Shepherds, Dobermans and more.
The rules are different for each condo association so this needs to be checked carefully. If you have what is termed a restricted breed, I know you love them but plan on buying a house on a street, not in a condo. There is no pet-friendly condo I am aware of that will accept them.
When I say pet friendly condos in Boca Raton, I can easily say pet friendly condos in Highland Beach FL or pet friendly condos in Delray Beach FL. There is no difference with regard to dogs and cats. The same holds true for all the towns.
CAN IT BE DONE?
The answer is yes. I have found condos for people with multiple pets ranging from cats, small dogs, medium-sized dogs, Golden Retrievers, American Bulldogs and Labradors, even multiple pets. Yes, it can be done but it takes time and patience and someone willing to do the work.
MY DOG DOESN'T BARK
I believe you, but I strongly urge you not to try and sneak them in. Someone is going to find out and then you're going to have a problem. So why not go to a pet-friendly condo in Boca Raton to begin with and avoid the headache?
MY DOG IS A THERAPY DOG
I hear a lot about this. "I can get a letter from my doctor." Maybe you can. The law says support animals are allowed. I have seen condos ask for documentation of pets that the pet has completed an approved therapy program to more easy-going associations. Again, it boils down to: Do you really want to go where your dog is not welcome? Not everyone loves dogs the way we do and there is the possiblity of you feeling uncomfortable in that situation.
