I am a huge fan of comedy! I am a huge fan of Martin Lawrence! So this 2000 release from Twentieth Century-Fox Film Corporation was a recipe for fun. I admit the plot is a little formulaic, but would you really be renting this for the in depth plot and character development? I am smiling just thinking of that! This is an old fashioned story of boy meets girl, in this case the lovely Nia Long, under less than favorable but side splittingly hilarious circumstances. Martin Lawrence is his usually funny self and the effects that went into creating "Momma" are reminiscent of Eddie Murphy's multiple characters in The Nutty Professor and Robin William's character Mrs. Doubtfire! He is supported by an excellent cast including, the aforementioned Nia Long, Paul Giamatti (think Lady In The Water and more recently the HBO mini series John Adams), and Cedric the Entertainer (think Welcome Home, Roscoe Jenkins). For a fun adult evening, this movie is rated PG-13, filled with laughter, rent this movie!

I have mixed feelings about Martin Lawrence, but when he is on his game, he can produce some really good material. This movie was a great non-stop laugh. So I agree, that people should rent it for a good time.

Hummmm...moonlighting I see! I think I like Martin Lawrence better in cop flicks!

Frank - I agree he does have to be on! I really did not like him in Wild Hogs and that was supposed to be a comedy!

Joan - Check out Frank's comment above, about Martin Lawrence having to be on. It may be that different people prefer him in different genres!

Hi Rich. I've yet to see this one... I'll pick it up if I come across it. Thanks for the review.

Did you see Diary of a Mad Black Woman. It was really funny! It has Tyler Perry and Cicely Tyson. If you like comedies you probably have seen it. I don't get a chance to see many movies. If I happen to hear they are good I eventually get around to seeing them. Maybe I should join the movie group so I will learn more about what is out there. I just travel back and forth to much to see anything.

Julie - The Movie Club is a great way to help you determine what might be a good fit for your particular tastes. I have watched (and not watched) movies based in part on some reviews I have come across here. Tyler Perry is an Atlanta resident! And I love Diary of a Mad Black Woman and Madea's Family Reunion! He has a whole series of movies featuring his character Madea that predate, Diary of a Mad Black Woman that weren't picked up or promoted like his latest films!

Your blog looks great. I didn't have any luck with mine. My sister, Carol Judd, put the text in her description box and was able to get the colored background, but has not been able to change it. For some reason I can not get mine to work. May try again sometime.

Julie - you can do it! I had to play around with it for awhile. I would definitely ask Brad any questions you have about it! He designed it, he is the man!
