Rub-A-Dub Dub, An Old Cast Iron Tub

I saw this old cast iron tub for sale while vising Julian and picking up some of my favorite Mom's pies. When I inquired, I acted as if I was interested and found out the price was a firm $500. Considering the work it would need to restore it, I think it may be a bit overpriced. But I am sure if the HGTV Property Brothers wanted it , they could get it for much less.

Back East, on older home remodels, they probably can't wait to get rid of these old tubs. I have seen some much better looking ones with the cabriolet legs or ball and claw. But if you want the tub for a home out here in California, I suppose you might as well fork over the dough. If not, there will be no rub a dub dubbing in this old tub tonight.

William Johnson   $500 does sound high for this tub without the claw feet .  They do make the most wonderful bubble baths

Hi William - I agree. It seems overpriced for the sytle and condition, but I'm judging based on our market, and as they say, all tubs are local.

William, I haven't bought one if these lately so I have no idea what it should cost.   Someone will fall in love with it for sure.

I sold a 1920's house with one of these tubs a few years ago.  It was literally the selling feature that moved the Buyer to write the offer!

I agree with you, it is missing nice feet.

How much would cost to restore something like this?

Good morning William. Remember taking many a bath and also clawfoot tubs. I'm now beginning to see some of these as retros and many of the older houses in East Nashville.

Not everybody wants a cast iron bathtub, and I expect price isn't a big issue for the people who do.

William, now that tub has what I would call a serious bathtub ring!  And there are stores in DC that sell these old tubs for a bunch.  Once in a while, I'll see one i a back yard being used as a planter.

That is really cool William. I love old things. I watch American Pickers and think they are so interesting finding old objects like the tub. Your photo is fantastic.

We certainly used to see a good number of these back in New England, and some were pretty grand. This looks like one that would be used as a planter

Some of us remember the times when those tubs were common.

Thanks for sharing your photograph.

Good evening William Johnson, we had a tub like this in our home in Martinsville NJ many years ago. It was very uncomfortable---I'll keep my Jacuzzi tub.
