What Are People Looking For When Choosing A Real Estate Professional?

Recently, I polled my non-realtor Facebook friends. I asked the following -

1. Would you hire a real estate professional to market your home if they had no social media presence?

Answers:

I have hired a real estate professional with no online presence to market my home. She did not sell it. In the future I would want a person with an online presence.
As far as having a Facebook business page and a website I do like that. I don't use any other social media for the most part and wouldn't be looking for google plus pages or stuff like that.
No.
I would definitely want a real estate agent with a social media presence but knowledge of area just as important.

2. Would you hire one to show you homes if they didn't have any social media presence?

Answers:

I would hire one to show me homes regardless of an online presence.
I'd say a great website that had a very good search program would be my most desired feature when first looking at buying a home. I feel like I'm not seeing everything that's out there when I go on sites like Zillow. And sometimes the real estate company sites aren't that great either.
No.

3. What platforms would you consider mandatory for them to be on to fully and adequately market your home?

Answers:

I think to fully market my home would take an online presence of some kind and the ability to add my home to a multiple listing service.
I guess I'd want them to work with Trulia, Zillow, Realtor.com and to know to look on the fsbo sites.
Also AHRN I believe changed to something like HOMES.mil in the last month or so and is now public so I'd want them to know all about that. (Military family)
I'd want my agent on all - the more exposure the better!

Website Information:

Not being OPTIMIZED FOR MOBILE and touch would be my number one complaint. I had an extremely difficult time looking on Trulia last weekend with my Kindle Fire in the back yard. The map feature in particular was making me crazy. I am
44 though so a mid 20s person might have a different perspective.

Absolutely would NOT work with the following:

The aggressive realtors that pester people in local Facebook groups I make note of so I won't use them because I do not respect them.

So as you can see social media presence is becoming more and more important. I have had people come to me because they lost clients due to their lack of online presence. Don't let it happen to you and don't become overwhelmed. Either hire a Virtual Assistant, have your office assistant learn how to take on the task via online social media classes or take the classes yourself, but do something. Don't let technology stand in your way because technology is what makes it possible for you to have this type of widespread exposure. It really is a good thing!
