$5.9 million Napa Valley home near Yountville goes up in smoke 11 days after being sold

Imagine buying a grand Yountville estate and paying $5.9 million for it, closing escrow on February 17th only to see it vanish. This is exactly what happen to 45 Vineyard View, one of the Napa Valley’s premier properties. The home was totally destroyed by fire on February 28th.

VV 3Not only is it located just a mile from downtown Yountville, but sat on a private, gated 20 plus acre parcel with phenomenal vineyard views. There was a 5,000 square feet main house, guest house, pool house and of course a wine cellar for over 1,000 bottles.

VV 5Fortunately the property was vacate at the time of the fire. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. One can see photos of the fire at the Napa Valley Register article on it.

All I can say, what a unfortunate lose of such a special property. I have several friends who live on the street with about 10 homes and I am certain there was quite a bit of anxiety during the nearly four hours it took to totally contain this blaze. I am thankful that none of them were caught up in this fire. It is a very wooded area which could have been disastrous for all who live of this street.

Since many owners in this price point will self insure I'm hoping that this wasn't one of them. Glad to know no one was injured during the blaze!

Hi

I know they will look at this very closely especially given an infamous explosion and fire that occurred here about 20 years. The day before it went boom, a person was flying over the house taking aerial shots of the Valley and what do you think was in the driveway. A big moving van. In the end the suspected arson but could never prove it. cheers cvc

Curtis, What a shame and I hope the new owners were adequately insured. It does make one wonder what happened. Maybe some type of electrical system issue?

Curtis,

Keep us to date, I remember one time when we were visting Napa there was a fire in one of the warehouses that stored lots of wine...millions of dollars of wine were lost and it was nice wines too.

I too hope the new owners were insured how strange.

That was an arson event by the person renting it to cover up the fact he had taken a lot of wine for his personal use. Sad, but true. cheers cvc

Hello Curtis,

How very sad, but so fortunate that the home was vacant...it will be interesting to learn what happened, if the source of the fire is able to be determined.

I built that house in 1989. I was shocked when I heard about this fire. Any world on potential cause?
