Hey potential renters- - I feel your frustration

This week I have a rental home that was last on the rental market 7 years ago. The few I have, do NOT turn often. If you leave me at 3 years you are a "short timer".

I have been busy changing, locks.shower curtains and toilet seats. that just something I do. It had been 9 years since it was painted inside and when the lady moved in she had a couple young Picasso's. No damage to speak of and security refund will be close to the full amount!

Now back to the frustrations. We have a market of NOTHING AVAILABLE with any of the rental firms and the newspaper has next to nothing. My add starts with ABSOLUTELY No SMOKING---- NO PETS

Do I need to tell you who has applied?  For insurance liability I do NOT take Dogs, which I dearly love. I had one guy I said NO on the phone and shortly after he sends his "knock out. model material gal" to see if she can change my mind. NOT HAPPENING.

I had people sobbing because I had applications ahead of theirs, I DON'T sift them. I process them in the order they come in. Some of these were too much drama and pure B.S. For some I feel their frustration and wished I had more rentals available. Your thoughts?

No smoking and no pets means no smoking and no pets.....pretty simple.  Stock up on bran muffins and prune juice!  These people are full of it!

Rob- I love Roger D. Mucci comment.  I'm not sure if when people read "no pets and no smoking" they somehow magically see the words "but you're an exception".   I can see why you would have those requirements.

Rob, rentals are short in supply here in Denver too, and for every rental available, you will have 20+ applications.

Good morning Rob. I have rental properties, to me it is all about the application and interview process. Have been very fortunate over the years.

As the owner, you need to make the legal rules that work for you.

I know exactly how you feel. In Alvin and the surrounding cities like Webster, NASA, Friendswood, Pearland.... leases are not in abundance ESPECIALLY in Alvin.

What gets me is now the owner or their Realtors want all the applicants to make 3 times the monthly rent. Is this common in your area.

Most people who rent in my area are not big money makers and even though they would make great renters they can't get in anything other than an apartment because of this red tape.

Sussie: Good to hear from you! Yes we need 2 1/2 to 3 times the rent in income. If not about month 3 they can't make it and I have an empty again. With so many renters I can pick and choose.
