Peter’s Gate Neighborhood in Monterey, CA
Peters Gate is a very desirable Monterey, CA neighborhood that is located near downtown Monterey. Peter’s Gate, as everyone locally calls the area, has been a favorite Monterey neighborhood for locals forever! And what is not to like about it! There are three city parks in this neighborhood, Via Paraiso Park, Whispering Pines Park and Veterans Memorial Park all within walking distance. In addition, you can walk to downtown Monterey from just about anywhere in this neighborhood! The streets are quiet for the most part and the homes are all well-kept! Peter’s Gate gets its name from artist Charles Rollo Peters, a painter from San Francisco who enjoyed the local artist scene in Carmel and especially loved painting the old Monterey adobe’s in various state of ruin. He owned a gated 30 estate which he later sold and was subdivided into what is now referred to as the Peter’s Gate neighborhood.
