Just as with home staging, updating your room is something that you can do yourself . . . quickly, easily and inexpensively.
Here are three time-tested ways to make that old room look brand new.
First, a fresh coat of paint in today's trendiest colours will make a world of difference. Consider warm, earth tone colours accented by dark blue - blue by the way is 2015's hottest colour. Or if that colour combination doesn't work, pastel colours such as minty green, peach and light pink are also making a come back this year.
Next, look at ways that you can declutter. Remember that any decor you have in a room should match the purpose of the space. Rooms with too many pictures on the wall, too many decorative items, or rooms with things stuffed in the corner or behind furniture that very quickly start to look like a storage room than a room that is part of your home.
Third, create a focal point for the room by using a single piece of large furniture complemented by smaller accent pieces. Or if the room is large, think about creating a single gallery wall - a wall that displays a collection of artwork - and add a chair and floor lamp or small table lamp to draw the eye to your new gallery space.
Updating a room can be fun, especially when it doesn't cost a lot and you can tap into this year's hottest trends as well!
