Are You Social Media Ready?

Social media is not a passing fad. In fact, it seems to be gaining momentum. There are many, like myself, who dipped their toe in the waters, so to speak, and adopted a wait-and-see attitude. I can see that now is the time to really get serious about social media.

Social media is a huge driver of traffic today. It's so big that it's virtually unacceptable to not be online for anyone who is looking to build a brand or a business.

Plus, just "being" on social media isn't nearly enough. It doesn't count if you have an account if you never actually update it. That certainly isn't going to help build any sort of brand recognition over the long run.

The first step to get social media ready is to embrace it. Social media is here and only going to expand, so if you're not on board, it's time to hop on the train. Do that by setting up the basic social media accounts, which can be Twitter, Facebook, YouTube or Pinterest.

If you only have a limited amount of time to work with social media, then focus on one. Usually Twitter is the easiest, it's a great way to get online, share your content and connect with influencers, local brands and potential clients.

Next, be sure to let people know you are online. That means adding social sharing buttons to your website, and especially, your blog. These buttons will not only let people click to follow you online via your social media accounts, but you can also add buttons that let's people share your content. We like that!

Finally, the third, but arguably most important aspect of being on social media is interacting with your fans and followers. You want to be sure to set aside time to use social media to get in touch with your potential clients. On Twitter especially you can chat with people who are looking to buy or sell homes.

Use social media to stand out from the crowd and be seen as an expert.

Michael Thornton ... good choice for a re-blog.  I especially like the point about having an account ... but not consistently freshening .. or posting to it.  So many just give up ...
