It is in my nature to be supportive whenever possible but there is a definite line drawn when someone wants to 'save money' and opts out of hiring a real estate agent but expects the help of a professional to achieve their goals. My client and I made an appointment with the unrepresented buyers to meet and discuss their offer to purchase.
As we sat down to look over the documents, all the blanks still needed to be filled. The quick volley of endless inquiries began..."Where do we sign?" "What goes here?" "Due diligence, huh?" "Can you recommend an inspector?" "Do we need an appraisal?" "What are special assessments?" "Do we have to sign every page?" "What is included in the sale?" "How...?"
And on and on. Since I represent the seller and the buyers decided to go it alone, I was unable to help them.
People are taken advantage of every day of the year due to ignorance or to 'save money' while looking to people outside the industry for answers. The end result inherently lies on their shoulders for decisions made, not anyone else's. Home buyers: This is one of the biggest life decisions you will make and if you wish to hire a real estate professional, they can help, otherwise the outcome is yours.
And yours alone.
