According to data collected by HUD millennials made up approximately 1/3 of the home buyers in the market.  Here are some of the features they are looking for according to the data provided by the NAHB:

1. 78% favor an open kitchen plus family room concept

2. 81% want three or four bedrooms

3. 64% want at least 2 or 2.5 baths

4. 55% think a laundry ROOM is ESSENTIAL and another 35% thought it was desirable

5. 84% are willing to pay more to get a highly energy-efficient home.

Things they dont want include:

1. 57% don't want a golf-course community

2. 47% did not want a master bath with a shower but no tub

3. 47% did not want to live in a high-density community.

They also weren't too hihg on gated communities, wine coolers, and laminate countertops and wet bars. They're willing to make a longer commute to get the home they want.

I always find these stats interesting.  I would think these trends are not only for millenials.  Over time many trends and desires come and go.  At one time, shag carpet was desirable.  I do hope that the term "starter home" isn't lost completely on young people, that would not be good.

John Meussner I agree, what people are looking for in their 20s and 30s will change when they reach their 40s (which sadly I just did this year).  I agree on the starter home idea.  But we live in a "I want it now" society.

I do not really think what generation my clients belong to. I'm good with any age and understand that every client prefers a certain way of communication and has his/her busy life. I just try to find the way it would work for both of us in the most efficient way.
