Judsonia AR Landis Cafe & Filling Station. Price is Right!

By
Real Estate Agent with RE/MAX Advantage

Now that sounds like a tricky title.  Sounds as if Landis Cafe and Filling Station is for sale.  And I AM a real estate agent looking for things to sell.  But that is not what I meant.

I meant that I have found a great old post card showing the old Landis Motel Cafe and Station at Highways 64 and 67 in Judsonia, Arkansas.  Their slogan was "We Doze but Never Close."  Air-conditioned rooms, new and modern.  Here is the way it looked in 1958.

It looks so clean and neat, doesn't it?  But what is interesting and surprising is the message on the back of the card.  I had to think about it for some time.  It said, "The total price is for show case $19,949.  Reva Crawford, Andrews.2.c."  And it was mailed to 1958 Show Case, The price is Right, P. O. Box 1958, New York 46, N. Y.

Then it hit me!  This card was mailed to The Price is Right in 1958 with hopes of winning a huge amount of items in the showcase.  The Price is Right is still around, isn't it??  There must be a huge number of cards that got mailed when the show was asking for postcard entries.  I guess now it would be a text message that they'd want.  How the world has changed...........

Here's the back of the card.

What's that?  What does it look like now?  I thought you'd never ask.  Here it is now.

Hi Barbara, love the nostalgia and all the vintage vehicles.  Didn't even know the Price Was Right was on the air yet in 1958.  Best to you!

Michael, I didn't know it either.  And it is still on, isn't it?  That is what stunned me about this card.

Looks like Reva passed away in Andrews, NC in 2012. It's sad she couldn't have been reunited with her postcard. I'm sure she would have had an interesting story of her visit to White County in 1958.

What a great slice of history.  I hope that it will find some new owners that will appreciate it.

Patrick, you did some searching!  I didn't think of looking up Reva.  It makes me wonder how many of these Price is Right cards are circulating out there.  I guess the show dumped them all after a drawing.  But then again.....what if Reva won!!!!!

Joan, you didn't read the whole blog.

Praful, you did not read the whole blog.  The place is not for sale.
