The saying is if you don't like the weather in Texas today just stick around! It will change quickly! Well, last night was one of those nights. Now of course, the weatherman had predicted severe storms all day but who believes the weatherman. There were tornados all over North Texas.
The storms hit early this morning and did severe damage in the area where we live. My older daughter called me at 3:30 a.m. hysterical because the tornado sirens were going off. She is a single Mom with two children so you can only imagine what a nightmare that was for her. She and both kids were in the bathtub with the dog (of course) and the cushions from the sofa. Needless to say we spent a sleepless night.
If you haven't been through a tornado then you have no idea how horrifying the sound of the warning sirens can be. We moved to DeSoto, Texas in 1978. The very week we moved in the city had a major tornado. Then we had another one where it hit the Jr High school building and she just happened to be in the classroom next to the corner of the school that was hit. Then in 1994 and F4 tornado hit DeSoto as well as Lancaster. Lancaster lost most of it's old buildings on the town square as well as a number of beautiful old homes along Main Street. You can not even imagine the path of destruction this tornado made. I was in Longview taking a CRS class when my 17year old daughter called in hysteria. When I returned home from the class I cannot tell you how sick I was driving through the communities and to see the destruction.
There were home owners who had their houses on the market ready to close the next day but of course they couldn't because the home had been destroyed. Three lives were lost in this particular tornado. I know we all have stories of severe weather and how it can change a community. So many things can happen to effect communities and the sale of homes.
Last night there was a tremendous amount of damage in the North Texas Region but thankfully no lives were lost.
