East Isles is one of the historic neighborhoods nestled around Lake of the Isles.  The area boasts single family homes along with a number of apartments and condos scattered throughout the district.  Conviniently located from downtown Minneapolis, East Isles is one of the oldest neighborhoods in all of the Minneapolis lakes area in addition to Lowry Hill and Kenwood.  Originally home to lumber barrons and titans of industry in the late 1800s, the area has now morphed into a dynamic array of residents from young people renting in a number of the classy apartment buildings to long time residents occupying some of the largest historical homes in Minneapolis.

What's the Neighborhood Like?

The homes you would expect to find for sale in the East Isles Neighborhood are generally going to range between 1500 and 7000 square feet. Most of the homes were originally built by some of the early Minneapolis homebuilders back in the late 1980's.  Recently the smaller homes have been removed to make way for new construction homes set in the vernacular of the neighborhood.  It is also not uncommon for homebuyers to purchase older homes and do extensive rennovations both inside and out.  There are 2 and 3 story homes with master suites on the 3rd floor.  Most of the city lots range between 1/4 acre and a 1/2 acre with alley access on most of the lots.

What's Going on Nearby the East Isles Neighborhood?

The southeast corner of East Isles is the edge of the hipster hangout in Minneapolis known as Uptown.  At Lake St and Hennepin Ave there is a plenthera of businesses, restaurants and shopping all within a few blocks.  In addition, the neighborhood has access to the Midtown Greenway biking trails, Lake Calhoun and Lake of the Isles.  In the evenings you will want to take a stroll down to enjoy dinner at Dao Foods or Burch Steak, great neighborhood hot spots! The little Uptown Cinema plays indie films throughout the year and it's not uncommon to have it sold out on Thursday nights for their premiere series.
