Concrete Wall Clues of Proper Construction
I had to do some repairs to a cracked section of a concrete wall in North Highland area of Sacramento. The cracks were causing the wall to lean into the adjoining property and was at risk of falling over. A section of the concrete block wall need to be removed and a new one built. We did that!
In the process of drying over the next couple of days, some things were being revealed. This shot shows that some of the vertical cells of the concrete blocks were filled with concrete. These cells were the ones with the rebar from the footing for strength, they are at about 32” apart. Since they are filled with concrete they are taking longer to dry.
The same is also true across the top of this wall. The rebar through the top course and the mounded cap held moisture for a few extra days – proof that the cells were filled!
