Chasco Fiesta in New Port Richey Florida Parade March 21, 2015
Chasco is based on a fictional love story between a Spanish boy and girl who were captured by the Calusa Indian tribe. Later in their life the boy and girl married each other as Queen Chasco and Pithla.
There has been controversy over the way native people are portrayed. I notice that the Native American festival is pushed to the side instead of on center stage as it should be but it shows how we indigenous people still survive despite the setbacks and portrayals.
The Chasco Fiesta started in 1922. It had been held continously since 1947 so it is a big deal with the community.
The parade was held on Saturday March 21, 2015 in downtown New Port Richey. It started at one p.m. and ended at three p.m.
