Ideas For Large Kitchen Cabinet Organizer

This weekend, I spent a long time on-line searching for that elusive large kitchen cabinet organizer - and found I had to eliminate a lot before finding the few relevant. I wanted to share my findings to save others time and frustration: After all I am a Professional Organizer and care about Time Management!

I was looking for an attractive clear plastic set of 3 or 4 bins AA kitchen organizerto fit in the large size upper cabinets measuring 25"x22". You can imagine that storing snacks, crackers, and small packages of sweets in this relatively huge space definitely requires a few organizers of some sort. There are quite attractive styles to be found on-line, brought to your door step by Amazon (click the link to Subscribe and Save on Amazon) so I thought my shopping would be over in 10 minutes. Alas - those attractive styles are only for the petite sizes and I was looking for a plus size.

I found a beatiful clear plastic stacking bin Iris with an open front for easy reach-in and which would maximize vertical space. However, the small size of each individual bin made it impractical. Wayfair carried only miniature samples, perfect for make-up organizing but not for the kitchen.  When I searched for X-large or 2X sizes on several A kitchen organizer different sites, I still came up with modest sizes. For instance Linus makes a handsome design in many different sizes. Yet what they refer to as extra large was only 8.5"x8.5". Not quite large enough to be practical for my purposes: The idea wasn't to stack 7 or 8 bins in an upper cabinet - rather 3 or 4 deep ones so one could see what one was reaching for.

So I searched for larger and stronger bins and came across Akro-Mils. A little longer at 15" - just what I was looking for - but at bin-load capacity of 60-pounds, a bit too industrial for most snack packets. Although - it might work very well in a garage setting as a small container.

At the end, I reluctantly decided that the best organizers for large upper kitchen cabinets are indeed plastic tubs or traditional Rubbermaid type large container bins. I loved Ecr4kids stack and store tub because of its handy yet elegant design and it came with no lid. Sterilite also offered adequately sized options. Not strictly speaking snack boxes you would want to expose for guests' admiration, but given the size requirements, these latch boxes were the most utilitarian options to be found. In the end, I guess I found something I could use, and at a good price.

I wondered though, why handsomely designed large size kitchen cabinet organizers are so impossible to find; and came up with no more intelligent answer than that their time must not have arrived yet.

I live in a small home with few kitchen cabinets.  Couple that issue with the fact that I love to cook, and I use a lot of spices.  In fact, I suspect there are at least 3 dozen bottles of spices.  I did find a great solution, by attaching a rack to the inside of the pantry door.  Organization is everything!
