Things to do in Encino: Sunday Hike

By
Real Estate Agent with Barcode Properties BRE # 01828994

Hiking is very popular in Los Angeles. So, if you have a chance to enjoy the great outdoors, have a breathe of fresh air from the hustle and bustle of Los Angeles and head to the foothills and mountains for some of the best hiking ever. Everyone knows that the best way to experience the diverse landscapes is by walking through them!

Hiking opportunities are abundant in Los Angeles county. Options range from easy short strolls to intense multi-day backpack trips.

So, when my daughter announced a school project that involved hiking~ I gladly volunteered to take her and a friend to the nearest hiking trail, a very popular, scenic trail in Encino( needless to say, it is my favorite school project ever!).

Where: Westridge-Canyonback Wilderness Park

17500 Mulholland Dr

Encino, CA 91436

BrentwoodWestridge-Canyonback Park provides more than 1,500 acres of open space bordered by upper Mandeville Canyon, Sullivan Canyon, Mission Canyon, and San Vicente Mountain Park.

Parking: free.

Dogs  are allowed off their leashes! and mountain bikes are ok.

Tips: Have  some water with you,  wear comfy clothes and shoes, sunblock, watch for rattle snakes, have a camera for your own breathtaking pictures.

The trail itself is relatively flat but you can follow some smaller trails across some hills for a little more of a vigorous walk.

After you pass few hills you can see across to the ocean and downtown on a clear day. It's gorgeous! The trail ends at Mountaingate, which is a private community in the Sepulveda pass.

The girls did not want an easy walk, we went all ups and downs!

If you are in Encino/Brentwood area, do give Wilderness Park a chance.

AMAZING views of all of Los Angeles, the ocean, snow-capped mountains, downtown L.A. , the San Fernando Valley, a lot of fun, and great memories are guaranteed.

And if you decide to buy a house in Encino near this and many other great mountain hikes, you know who to call to assist you, don't you?

Hi Inna Ivchenko , I remember hiking when I was younger.  It sounds like a great place to go, especially for the view.

Inna Ivchenko I miss those mountaineering days of college - once hiked on Himalayas - (and lost almost 20 lbs in 10 days....lol!)

Never developed the same taste here, however, loved the pictures  you took - specifically one where there are signs of spring...!

Lise Howe my son is going to college in a few months. It is so wonderful and scary at the same time to let them go on their own....:)

As for late posting, I needed to get it done, so i don't wait another week:)

I have too many posts piling up, I'm becoming addicted to blogging....lol.  I read today about a blogger who gets 90% of her business from it! How cool is that!

Robert (Bob) Gilbert I did not know what is hiking till I came here. My fist hike was very easy, it was near Griffith Observatory and I had flip flops since I had no idea what to expect. Since that time I tried different hills, some were very challenging, but some are easy and relaxing. I would do it more often, but rattle snakes, coyotes, and some bigger cats live there and cell connection is dead in some areas:)

Will Hamm , fires are usually come from Malibu area and unfortunately, since from tomorrow we are getting 90+, it is possible to hear about them. It is very dry and the overwhelming cause of these fires are ....humans. A stupid cigarette butt can start fire and destroy houses and even kill people.

Rob Thomas , I know they would! It is one of very few places where dogs are allowed off leash. Do you hike with them in your area? I believe that Bristol, TN has many good trails as well.

Thank you Regina P. Brown !!!

Paul McFadden do you have a blog post with pictures? I'd love to see it!

Inna: I do not know how far we will hike. It will be interesting to see if there are any wild flowers left or if it's just too freakin' hot. I will post photos in my blog, though.

Larry Johnston you might want to do it again, maybe in more flat areas.  Walking is a great workout for body and for mind. They call it walking meditation, and it can also be fitted in to the gaps in our lives quite easily.

Joan Whitebook it is:) This location has two trails, and the other one is much longer. You end up right on the cliff with the panoramic views of the ocean.

Praful Thakkar this is really COOL! I'd love to go to Himalayas one day for sure!

My friend recently went there( as a last wish, he had a very bad stage of cancer, he is better now). The pictures he sent me, were stunning! He wants to do it again, when he is feeling stronger. That is a really great motivation to get well, right?!

That's one of the few things I'd like that don't exist in South Florida... hiking trails that provide a view from above!  Although there are hiking trails to be found, it's very flat terrain here.  The only place I know of that's sort of a hill is what we lovingly call Mt. Trashmore that was converted into a park.

Leanne Paynter ~ Broward County, FL ,

I did not know that! thanks for sharing!

If you being in L.A. you know, it is  hills and valleys . Hiking is a fun part, but showing houses in hills can be challenging:) Some roads are very stiff and narrow, yet, those houses have best views.
