I own a small retail business, and my day starts with about an hour and a half in the store. I do this for multiple reasons, but one of the main ones is that I keep on eye out on the business. Been told as a business owner you need to know what is going on, right?
So while I do not spend a lot of time in the store, I do tend to be there about 5-10 hours a week. Generally it is early morning till about 9 am, which gets me time meeting some clients and helping them out with their needs. I say some time, because the store does not see heavy traffic first thing in the morning, we are not a coffee/bagel/donut shop. I will usually help anywhere from 2-3 folks to about 10 in my time at the store, per day. Some of the folks are repeat clients, and some are new. All are nice enough, greeting me with the good morning, and giving me thanks.
Today, though, I really was taken by this sweet young lady who came in the store. It was just a very honest smile, good morning, and "how is you doing today?" Little chit chat as I help her with her needs and then she gives me the "thanks so much for your help".
It struck home because while people are generally nice when they come into the store, this one was unique. No one ever asks how I'm doing, or thanking me (appears its expected, which I guess it should be right?) for the help I've given. So while this does not land back on her ears, I'd just like to say thank you so much, you've brightened my day. It was refreshing to get acknowledged and thanked, but also have it been done with what appeared to me complete sincerity and not just a going through the motions.
Know what I mean?
