Flood Insurance Louisiana

A great way to save on the cost of Flood insurance is to have a Flood Elevation Certificate. The cost varies but generally an investment of $250-500 can save you thousands over the life of your home.

How to Obtain a Copy of an Flood Elevation Certificate:

  1. Have a license land surveyor, engineer or architect obtain a study of the land.
  2. Find a Flood Elevation Certificate.org
  3. Have your Realtor when purchasing a new home ask for a copy

Flood Elevation will help determine proper flood insurance premium rate for a building.

Why Flood Insurance

Flood insurance protect against loss form a flood. the protection is year round. A flood insurance policy is different from Home Owners insurance. Renters should purchase a  policy to protect their personal interest. A key point in flood insurance policy is that they do not go into effect until 30 days after purchase.

Excellent post Frank.  This is a major issue in Florida as well and an elevation certificate is my recommendation for all buyers.

Gabe a new listing in Mandeville, La. would pay $1800 a year for flood insurance. With the flood elevation cert, the annual premium is $532.

Barbara-Jo Roberts Berberi, in La you can get a flood quote without the cert. Your just going to pay a Higher premium.
